GAMETIME PNG

BULA FC and Vanuatu United FC have arrived in Papua New Guinea. The OFC Professional League is preparing for Round 2 kickoff in Port Moresby at the Santos National Football Stadium.

The professional teams from Fiji and Vanuatu arrived second. They arrived after Auckland FC following the inaugural round wrapped up in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

BFC’s captain Roy Krishna expressed his delight at returning to PNG for the pro league. It was his first visit since 2024 with the Fiji Men’s National Team during the FIFA World Cup 26-Oceania Qualifiers.

“It’s good to be back. Playing here (in Port Moresby) is always a privilege. The boys are looking forward to round two….Hopefully the weather will be good.”

Krishna who scored the first goal for Fiji’s first professional football team during round one in Auckland, will be leading the young side again when they face Melanesian brothers Solomon Kings (SOK) on Sunday afternoon.

“The experience has been good, we have a young squad and can play football. The boys are still jelling but round two will be interesting, looking forward to it,” he added.

VUFC’s forward Alex Saniel said round two is all about improvement after the first round.

“Firstly it’s great to be back in PNG after our visit for the 2025 MSG Prime Ministers’ Cup. Our first round progress in Auckland resulted in a draw. We also faced two losses.”

“We’ve gone back to identify and improve on our mistakes after sighting our performance in New Zealand. Most of the boys are first-timers in professional football. We are now looking forward to the second round here in PNG.”

Saniel has also made his mark in the region’s first professional football competition. He recorded his name as the first OFC Pro League goal scorer.

Meanwhile the remaining four teams South Island United (New Zealand), Tahiti United (Tahiti), Solomon Kings (Solomon Islands) and South Melbourne (Australia) will arrive in Port Moresby on Thursday.

As it stands on the OFC Pro-League ladder, Auckland FC lead on top with three straight wins after round one. They are followed by South Melbourne, Solomon Kings, South Island United, Bula FC, Tahiti United, Vanuatu United FC, and PNG Hekari.

The round 2 matches will be televised via National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) TV and streamed on FIFA + TV.
