THE Papua New Guinea Football Association has issued a revised schedule for the 2025 Premier Soccer League with round two expected to kick off after the independence celebrations.

The men’s competition currently running in Port Moresby and Lae will be halted due PNG’s 50th Independence Celebrations (Sept 15-19) as the PNG Football Stadium will be used among the surrounding precinct apart from the World Coaches Program (Sept 15-19).

“Kickoff for the second round of the Premier Soccer League has been deferred to 20 September 2025,” PNGFA said in a statement.

In line with this adjustment, the Player Transfer Window deadline has been extended to Sept 13, allowing clubs sufficient time to finalize their squads ahead of the resumption of matches.
Meanwhile the Women’s Conference Soccer League (WCSL) and the National Youth Soccer League (NYSL) will now commence on Sept 21.

This extension provides Member Associations (MAs) additional time to collaborate and ensure a minimum of six teams in each of the four conferences for both leagues.

To support participation, PNGFA has reduced affiliation fees as follows:
• Women’s Conference Soccer League – K6000
• National Youth Soccer League (U18 Men & Women) – K5000 per division

“PNGFA stresses that all fully-fledged Member Associations are required to participate in
their respective conferences.”

The decision to defer competitions has been made to ensure the safety, smooth logistics, and
overall success of the leagues during this significant national celebration period

“PNGFA appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all clubs, Member Associations, and stakeholders, and looks forward to resuming and launching the competitions on the revised dates.”

“People ask me what I do in the winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
