PAPUA New Guinea’s heavyweight KickBoxer Konduop Wailo has created history by defeating his Australia opponent in a knockout victory recently.

Wailo who competed in the Mens 92kg heavyweight division was among two other individuals Mark Sondo (96kg) and Adasha Sumi (56kg) who made their professional debut in Melbourne Pavillion, Australia.

He set a high standard by securing a knockout victory in the final round against James Delis, paving a promising path for fellow fighters.

Meanwhile Sumi, a 17-year-old promising kickboxer faced a tough challenge against a more experienced opponent Luana Sabani, ultimately winning her bout by a split decision on points.

Sondo an experienced international competitor, sustained a knee injury prior to his fight and was unable to secure a win.

The team led by coach, PNG Kick Boxing Federation president and former World Champion Stanley Nandex (Head Hunter) made an impression with plans to secure more bouts in Australia.

While lauding the performance of a small dynamic team, Nandex confirmed that he received calls from other promoters eager to feature PNG fighters in upcoming shows.

He described this initial outing as a successful trial and was pleased with the fighters’ achievements. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity and conveyed his ambition to bring further success to Papua New Guinea in the professional arena.

“The invitation to the Melbourne event was fully funded, covering 5-star accommodation, allowances, meals, and transportation for the team.”

“Building on this success, the PNGKBF has received further invitations for events Sydney on July 5 and in Brisbane on Aug 15. PNGKBF is now preparing to send a larger contingent of eight fighters, split between these two events.”

“The divisions represented will include 92kg, 81kg, 65kg, 70kg, 60kg, and 75kg. Heavyweight standout Konduop Wailo is anticipated to be a prominent feature on the main card,” Nandex added.
