THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League has provided a new update on Kimbe Cutters Forward Ray Amos after an on-field incident on Sunday.

Amos who plays for the West New Britain Provincial Government sponsored franchise in the Digicel-ExxonMobil Cup sustained a serious neck injury during a match on Sunday.

He received immediate treatment from two doctors who were part of PNG NRLC game day staff and was transported to the Port Moresby General Hospital by the St. John ambulance team within minutes of the incident.

Amos underwent surgery on Sunday night and remains in a serious condition.

PNGRFL Chief Executive Officer Stanley Hondina said they are working closely with the Cutters franchise management and Amos’ family to ensure the best medical help is given.

“This is an unfortunate event and I have met with the family at the hospital to reassure them that Mr Amos will receive the best medical health.”

“As a game we continue to ensure that he gets the best treatment available. Please join me in praying for Ray and his family at this time. The rugby league family as a whole will provide all needed support.”

“PNGRFL would like to make it clear that (Mr) Amos was taken to Port Moresby General hospital on direction of the on-field doctor as POM Gen has the best Neuro team and upon directions from his doctors,” Hondina said.

Meanwhile the Match Review Committee have met with the PNGRFL’s General Manager Pathways and Performance Tony Archer to release their findings.

“As part of our normal process all matches in the Digicel ExxonMobil are reviewed for any possible foul play. We undertook a rigorous review of all angles of this incident. There is no evidence of foul play.

“The Viper’s player, Gairo Voro was sent to the Sin Bin following the scoring of the try. There was no action Gairo Voro that related to foul play.”

Archer said “Our thoughts and prays are with the Ray, his family, the club and the boarder rugby league community at this time and we will continue to support all those affected by this incident.”

“Supporting each other in difficult times is one of things that make the game of Rugby League great.”

PNGRFL will provide update on Mr Amos condition and treatment over the coming days.
