PAPUA New Guinea’s top junior squash player Timonaliz Alarcos Kriebisch has claimed bronze following her participation in the 2025 Luxembourg Squash Junior Open on Sunday.

Now based in Denmark, the rising star has been on tour within the European Squash circuit since her family’s move last year.

Kriebisch competed in the U15 girl’s category after turning 13 a week ago and made an impressive start to improve her ranks in this circuit.

Her mum, Merlyn Alarcos said they are proud of her progress, hard work and determination she puts toward her goals.

“Her team here in Europe have been amazing and they go far and beyond to give her the best support to improve her mentally and physically.”

“We are looking forward to her future tournaments as she prepares to reach her goal to move into the Top Ranks in Europe and continue to promote PNG flag at such tournaments.”

“It was pleasing to see that many players didn’t know where PNG was and always asking us because they had never seen the PNG flag at their tournaments before.,” she added.

The Luxembourg tournament which ran from May 2-4 saw a total of 85 entries with representatives the host country and from 13 other countries.

Kriebisch had four matches played taking three wins and a loss. The first win was against France’s Leonie Massette (11-0, 11-7,11-3) before she won against another junior from Germany (11-1,11-2,11-1).

The critical match she lost was against Lea Sophie (11-6,11-9, 10-12,11-8) currently ranked 3rd in Europe which eliminated her from the Grandfinal playoff.

She still had a chance in the bronze medal playoff and defeated Belgium’s Zita Borre (7-11, 11-3, 11-3, 11-8) for a podium finish.

“People ask me what I do in the winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
