THE Kramer Asia Pacific PNG Sisters are off to a strong start this season after claiming the Women’s 7s title during the 2025 Niupower Sports Tok 7s tournament in Port Moresby.

Following a strong defeat against the Blazers, Sevens coach Eugene Tokavai said it was a strong comeback from last year’s Sevens performance.

The team now shifts focus to the XVs in this year’s Capital Rugby Union Women’s competition.

“It’s all about our preparations, last year we fell short in the finals (Cup Runner’s Up) and needed to work extra hard this year.”

The only female team within KAPAC Brothers Rugby Union Club had the services of PNG Palais veterans Joanne Lagona and Alice Alois, boosting their team performance during the three-day tournament.

Their presence also motivated the young players who joined in the last two seasons.

“Having both of them is a blessing to the team and a big plus, most of the girls are still new to the code, they have been together for the past two years, some are still learning to play.”

Since the annual sevens tournament was introduced in 2018, there has been inconsistent performance with the women’s competition however this year proved too good with the inclusion of a local sevens team from Fiji.

“Sports Tok 7s is a great tournament to build players and for us it was all about building the players not just for sevens but for the 15s (XVs) competition.”

“I’d like to acknowledge all our sponsors and our naming rights sponsors Kramer Asia Pacific (KAPAC) for being part of the Brothers RUC journey,” Tokavai added.

BRUC’s three sevens teams showed exceptional prowess with Sisters securing the Women’s title, the U20 Mens (Brothers) finishing off as Cup Runner’s Up and the Open Mens making it into the Plate Semi-finals during the seven’s tournament.

Meanwhile XVs training continued on Tuesday at the Sir John Guise Stadium multipurpose field, with no time to spare as CRU commences round three competitions this weekend at Bava Park.
