PAPUA New Guinea Kumuls and SP Hunters full back Morea Morea is back for more action this season.

He returned from his train and trail contract with the North-Queensland Cowboys.

The Central lad returned to camp last week and is preparing for the Queensland Rugby League competition.

This follows his in-form performance with the Kumuls on debut at the Pacific ‘Bowl’ Championships last year.

“It was a good experience for me. I learnt heaps of things down in Townsville. I also got to meet some of the NRL stars.”

“Learnt a lot in communications which helped me get better in the attacks and defensive drills during the trials.”

He said the feeling was unreal. He rubbed shoulders with some of Todd Payton’s coached stars like Scott Drink Water and Cohen Hess. He had only watched them act in the NRL on TV.

“During my first day, it was sad. The lads from Cowboys were so helpful. They made me feel at home.”

“It was great to see a few familiar faces. These included fellow Kumuls Jimmy Ngutlik, Robert Derby, Zac, and Kyle Laybutt.”

Morea said the experience with the North Queensland team will help direct and guide fellow team mates. This will aid the hunters squad as they prepare for the season ahead.

“It’s great to be back with the boys. My communication level and skills have improved. I am really keen on working with the boys. I also want to teach them a few things I learned in Townsville,” he added.

Morea made a huge come back at the end of 2024 after been named in the PNG Kumuls side despite an and off season with the Hunters.

The 2023 Q-Cup Rookie of the year’s try on debut came in after an 18th man activation was made during the 2024 Pacific Championships against Cook Islands at the Santos National Football Stadium. This earned him the call-up with the NRL side

“Last year was tough for me however I was lucky to receive a lot of support during my recovery and the Kumuls debut was an added bonus.”

“This year I am really looking forward to putting that Hunters Jersey on and be back in action for my country,” he added.

Quote of the week

“People ask me what I do in the winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
