THE National Darts Federation of PNG has placed their bid to host the next South Pacific Darts Championship Titles by 2027.

President Molean Kilepak confirmed this after PNG Dart’s return to the SPDC event current underway in Suva, Fiji.

“We had bid to host the 4th SPDC (this year) as part of our 50th Independence Anniversary. But, since we were absent at the 3rd SPDC, our submission was not considered.”

“We have already sent a bid to host the 5th SPDC in Port Moresby in 2027. We are optimistic we will be given this opportunity to be the next host.”

“We hope for support from member countries for our bid to host the 5th SPDC in 2027. We look forward to working with everyone back home to host a successful 5th SPDC if given the green light.”

PNG’s national dart team was the inaugural winner of the 2018 SPDC held in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

“We are confident of reclaiming the title as Kings and Queens of Darts in the South. This is a title we were bestowed with in the inaugural SPDC. The only sponsor we had then, was BSP Ltd with a funding of K5000.00 and we are grateful to them.”

He said that despite their title, they did not attend the 2nd SPDC held in Niue. They also missed the 3rd SPDC in Tonga due to financial difficulties.

“If we are successful, we equally call for major sponsors to help us make this international event a success.”

Meanwhile, Kilepak said they were also looking at other international events. This interest developed since their endorsement to the Word Dart Federation.

“We are anticipating other international events this year. These include the WDF World Cup of Darts in South Korea in September 2025. There are also other WDF Youth events in 2025.”

“We are now focusing on our Youths and developed an Association Profile which provides extra background information.”

He said that among the eight island countries, some are competing in the 4th SPDC. They are now pushing for the inclusion of darts in the next Pacific Games.

“We are one of eight island countries pushing. We all need the support of our National Olympic Committees. They must provide a supporting letter for consideration at the appropriate level,” he added.
