PAPUA New Guinea martial artist Andrew Molen has been recognized by fellow elites. This followed his promotion to ‘Sifu’ in the fight style of ‘Kung Fu-Wushu’.

Molen recently obtained the title of ‘Sifu’ from his PNG Shaolin Kung Fu Wushu School teacher. The title translates as ‘Father’ in Chinese. His teacher is Sifu Steven Ngandang.

Sifu refers to the Head Instructor or Master of a style or club in Traditional Chinese Martial Arts.

Molen has been training in martial arts and competing in combat sports for the last 20 years.

He earned the rank of Second Dan Black Belt. This achievement was under the International Dragon Full Contact Self Defense Sports Federation system.

The endorsement was given by Dragon Karanas MMA Club Chief Instructor Sensei Byron Chan. East Gate Karate Academy chief instructor Sensei Julius Piku also provided the endorsement. This was a much-deserved recognition.

This occurred after a group of martial artists recently held a meeting. They aimed to promote the growth of combat sport in PNG.

He will now lead the Kung Fu and Wushu training in Sensei Chan’s club.

Meanwhile Sensei Julius expressed his support and acknowledged Sensei Chan’s support to promote the code despite a busy schedule.

“At East Gate Karate, we are always delighted to launch people off to a good start. We enjoy seeing them become successful in their endeavors,” he said.

Meanwhile after Molen’s recognition, he can now pursue his goals of opening a club and continuing the martial arts tradition.

“People ask me what I do in the winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
