The Cricket PNG Board has reluctantly accepted the resignation. PNG Barramundis Head Coach Tatenda Taibu resigned on Thursday Jan 17, 2025.
Taibu who had been with CPNG since the end of 2023 resigned on the grounds of family obligations.
CPNG Board chairman Michael Harrison said, “Taibu had originally hoped to bring his family to PNG. Yet, due to personal circumstances, this did not eventuate.”
“His focus will now be on coaching his sons. He is back in England where he resides and where they play cricket. He wants to focus on a new career change.
“We wish him well with his future endeavors.”
The Barramundis have a big year in 2025. They will join in a Challenge League-A One Day International (ODI) tournament.
This event takes place in Jersey come August. After this, there will be a qualification event in Oman. This will take place in October for the next T20 World Cup in 2026.
“Our Barramundi Team are all now out of contract. Cricket PNG associations are undertaking an exciting process. They will nominate their top players for a choice process over the next few weeks.
The Board will start recruiting for a new Head Coach. This will be completed in time for the new team selections. Harrison added this statement.
